Vodafone Mobile Connect on OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) with an E3730 data card
Posted by Roy Tomeij | Filed under Software
After trying numerous “solutions”, I finally managed to get my Vodafone “express data card” (the E3730 by Option) to work on OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard), together with Vodafone’s “Mobile Connect” software.
I don’t know if this works with all versions of Mobile Connect, but at least it did with this one: Vodafone Mobile Connect 2.11.04.00. After installing the Mobile Connect software (if you don’t have it yet), the trick is to “update” the drivers for the data card to the OSX 10.4 (Tiger) version. For this you need to download the Option drivers (Option forgot to add some extensions, so this goes to the proper zip I made after fixing them).
Simply open the dmg, install the 10.4 drivers and you’re done (or at least: I was).
PS: NO thanks to the Vodafone help desk, which doesn’t know sh*t and has been keeping me and numerous others in the blind since Snow Leopard was released. Spend a few $ on the developer release next time guys!

You are a HERO, thanks for the work around. I will send a complaint to Vodafone for NOT being able to assist their Apple customers to continue working under Snow Leopard !
Thanks once again, you gave me back my mobile world !Jacob

October 10th, 2009 at 9:30 pmI totally agree, Roy Tomeij is the hero! This how-to got me back online after I realized that Snow Leopard wasn’t able to properly use my Vodafone E3730 UMTS express data card. Vodafone Business Support in Germany told me they know about this issue but they can not help me at the moment. I should have a look at their website once a while and check for new drivers(!). Of course I need to continue to pay for their service in the meantime. Not being able to provide a driver for a 1year old data card for Snow Leopard (not even 2 months after SL release date) made me quite upset about Vodafone. Imagine they would do the same with their drivers for a new version of Windows. Hello Vodafone, some of your customers do not use Windows on your network.
Thanks a lot Roy,
Mathias
